Eehn eehn, this one wey I wan talk today eehn. Abeg, make una no think am say I dey jealous of some people o. Olohun, I no dey jealous because I no say me sef go blow for this industry. The thing just dey take time ni. But I no say by the time I start to dey mix Apala with Juju plus Fuji join Raggae, add HighLife con put hip hop on top. Me sef go blow. But na serious advice I wan give my people this time around.
I know say na our tradition for Naija. We no dey take eyes jam trending thing, we go dey rush am quick quick ni. Just like dem dey do for Slimcase, Mr. Real and Duncan Mighty now.
As Slimcase dey shout ‘SaintSami Ganja’ up and down now, so tey, almost all the artiste wey dey industry don almost feature am. The guy has been rapping for almost 7 years quietly but nobody see am.
‘Oshozondi’ gave Slimcase the break he don dey crave for and as the Shaku Shaku vibe just full everywhere making him popular, everybody wan feature for him glory.
DJ Enimoney has featured him alongside Tiwa Savage and Reminisce on Diet, Idowest did the same with alongside his record label boss, Dammy Krane on Shepeteri.
DJ Neptune also has his voice on his Greatness album alongside Olamide, Larry Gaaga and CDQ. Wizkid had him on Guccisnake and DBanj placed him and his fellow rave making artiste Mr. Real on Issa Banger.
Slimcase also don do Malowa with Omawumi and DJ Spinall graciously rendering his lamba vibe on the track.
Well, for Duncan Mighty own sha. Let’s just say na collaborative attempt to bring Oga Duncan back into the game. The Port Harcourt first son don hit the limelight again after his hit with Wizkid ‘Fake Love’ and then ‘Lova Lova’ with Tiwa Savage’.
He has done ‘Bio Bio’ with Reekado Banks DJ Xclusive also featured him on ‘Gimme Love’. And another jam with Davido still coming through, the video of which has caught him in a web of prostration controversy.
Collaboration is good for the growth of the industry. However, the thing wey me I just wan holla dem artiste wey dey rush this rave making singers be say, consider the kind of brand wey you represent before you start to dey rush rave making artiste.
Because the kind of industry wey we dey, na time dey control am. You sef don experience that time wey everybody just wan do something with you. However, that time go come as it is right now and it will go. Consider the brand you are representing. Don’t just jump on waves. Think about what you want your music to represent in times to come. Of course, this is an industry of relevance and everybody surely wants to remain of the lips of the masses. However, classic artistes would rather remain in the mind of the people forever than on the lips temporarily.
One of the artiste wey I dey give total respect on top this collaboration things na Simi. Simi no dey do anyhow anyhow collaboration. If she no dey feel your vibe, you no go fit feature am on top any song neither can you be featured on hers. Why, she is quite particular about her sounds and she knows these things go a long way to showcase who she is and what she wants to be known for.
Music is timeless and that is why we have evergreens. Would you rather be known as that artiste who carved a niche for herself and stayed to excel within the niche or a prostitute artiste who wines with every sound out there? There is a thin line between versatility and music irresponsibility.
I too dey speak grammar whenever I wan advise my people anyway, abi wetin una think too, abeg drop your comment on this one.
